About Us

Arts Centre Melbourne aims to be a creative hub for the performing arts in Victoria. We do this through support for the directors, writers, musicians and actors that shape the future of performing arts in this State. We welcome artists as collaborators, support new commissions and workshops and encourage artists to experiment, be daring and to take risks.

Some of the ways we support artists

The Artists Advocacy Group
This group advises the Trust on matters relating to artistic policies and programming, and promoting Arts Centre Melbourne as a place for artists. The group comprises a diverse range of practitioners and they meet several times a year.

Wal Cherry Play of the Year
This is presented annually in honour of the achievement of Wal Cherry, the acclaimed director/administrator who died in 1986. It is given to a play judged to be the best unproduced work by a Victorian playwright.

Kenneth Myer Medallion The Kenneth Myer Medallion for the Performing Arts is presented annually to a person who has contributed outstanding and distinguished services to the Performing Arts.

Green Room Awards
Arts Centre Melbourne is a major supporter of the Green Room Awards, an annual event which recognises the efforts of all those who help give Victorians a taste of the performing arts. The Awards celebrate all the performances given in diverse theatres and performance spaces, large and small, across the full spectrum of live performance.

Artists’ Welcome Kit
Arts Centre Melbourne is a large organisation and newcomers often find it a bewildering maze or corridors, many of them underground. To help visiting artists find their way around, we’ve developed a user-friendly guide designed to help you feel more ‘at home’.
