Latitude 37
Kick-start your weekend with fresh, new and exciting performances as part of Riverside Live in and around Hamer Hall.
Latitude 37 transports you to the streets and salons of pre-revolution Paris. Be amused by music written to charm even the most jaded of courtiers at the Louis XIV’s splendid court in Versailles by Marais, Rameau, Couperin and Leclair. Be delighted by popular tunes from the city’s streets and mesmerized by the hypnotic ringing of the bells of St Genevieve.
Latitude 37, named after the latitudinal position which links Melbourne, Australia, to New Zealand, is an exciting baroque trio whose members were drawn together by their passion for historically informed performance of 16th, 17th and 18th century music. Epitomizing the intensity and intimacy of a trio, vitality, excitement and expression are defining features of their performance. Their spontaneity is inspired by their belief in the art of improvisation, communication, and the humanity of a genre of music intended to charm and enchant its audience.
