Since 2014, Arts Centre Melbourne has been host to the Betty Amsden Participation Program, an annual community event that inspires people from all over Melbourne to get involved and tap into their inner creativity.
These large-scale projects are designed to inspire and delight the entire city of Melbourne.
In 2014, Play Me, I’m Yours transformed the streets of Melbourne, bringing wonder, joy and delight to people’s lives. Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of bringing Home, Dominoes and Fun Run to life for Victorians.
In 2018, we’re bringing back Play Me, I’m Yours. We’ll see 20 pre-loved pianos restored to playing condition, and individually decorated by members of the public.
The pianos will be available for spontaneous enjoyment between 19 January and 4 February 2018. You might find them in parks, cultural centres, on bridges, in markets or train stations.
After the project’s completion the pianos will be gifted back to the public for ongoing community enjoyment.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, whether it’s decorating a piano, donating to our appeal for the project, sitting down to play, or simply listening to someone else!
With your support we will have a broader reach into community and engage with more people, especially those who are not able to access the arts.
Funds raised through this appeal will support the costs of the piano technician, materials associated with the pianos’ redecoration and final deliveries to community organisations.
“These pianos put back the ‘neighbour’ in ‘neighbourhood.’ They got strangers chatting, stressed workers laughing, kids being active, oldies being childish, and groups having fun. They should be a permanent fixture of the Melbourne grid.” Melbourne commuter.
“This was a nice human experience, seeing people share music with one another was heart-warming. It made me feel proud to live in this beautiful city.” Play Me, I’m Yours participant.
