Stories in the Wall is a collaborative digital storytelling project that brings together students from Victorian primary and secondary schools.
Running since 2014, each year we draw inspiration for Stories in the Wall from Arts Centre Melbourne’s families and school season, including shows such as the sci-fi adventure, The Intergalactic Nemesis, and Australian classic, Snugglepot & Cuddlepie.
Through this collaborative project, primary and secondary school students work alongside industry professionals to develop skills in scriptwriting, performance, music composition and sound design.
Grade 5 and 6 students are guided through the story-making and scriptwriting process by professional playwrights, developing their writing skills as they create and refine original plays. This is followed up with a visit to The Channel at Arts Centre Melbourne where students act out and record their plays.
Young composers and sound designers are then selected from nominated students across Victorian secondary schools to work with the recorded play. With guidance from the creative learning team at The Channel, secondary students create original music compositions and sound design to make these stories come to life!
The final performances are available online for audiences to hear and enjoy.
