Playking Travel Grant: Letting Your Creative Ideas Fly!
Since 2013, Playking Foundation in association with Arts Centre Melbourne offered travel grants of up to $6,000 to assist Australian artists establish creative connections and pursue performing arts collaborations in Asia.
The grants were designed to support travel costs and living expenses for Australian artists visiting Asia – and occasionally for reciprocal travel by Asian artists to Australia.
Two rounds were offered each financial year with closing dates in October and May – six rounds were offered between 2013 and 2016. Over this period, Arts Centre Melbourne and Playking were delighted to have supported the following artists with travel grants:
David Finnigan (Philippines), Peter Wilson (Cambodia), Tammy Brennan (India), Geoff Nees (Japan), Reko Rennie (India), Joanna Dudley (Indonesia), Anna Tregloan (Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia), Victoria Chiu (China), Tim Stitz (China), Harley Stumm (Cambodia), Yaron Lifschitz (India), Jeff Kahn (Philippines and Taiwan), Tamara Harrison (Indonesia), Genevieve Lacey (China), Angharad Wynne-Jones (Japan), Rafaella McDonald (Indonesia), Liza Lim (China), Glyn Roberts (Singapore) and Sandra Thibodeaux (Indonesia), Lara Thoms (Indonesia), CJ Fraser-Bell (China), Helen Hristofski (China), Tahli Corin (Malaysia), Nicola Gunn (China) and Madeleine Flynn (Korea).
A highly competitive program, the Playking Trustees and Arts Centre Melbourne wish to thank all applicants for their interest in the program and for the work done in preparing applications.
After three years, at the end of 2016 the initiative was the subject of review and is currently on hold. It is anticipated that an announcement about the future of the program will be made in the second quarter of 2017.
