No rehearsals. A script waiting on stage in a sealed box. Alison Bell, plus the playwright himself.

Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour (creator of White Rabbit Red Rabbit) returns with NASSIM - an audacious theatrical experiment exploring the power of language to unite us in unknown, uncertain times.

NASSIM follows the hugely popular White Rabbit Red Rabbit series - written when Soleimanpour, a conscientious objector, was forbidden to leave his native Iran, travelling the show in his place. Translated into 25 different languages, it has been performed over 1000 times by some of the biggest names in theatre and film including Sinead Cusack, Ken Loach and Whoopi Goldberg, and locally by the likes of Kat Stewart, Shaun Micallef, Celia Pacquola.

Now living in Berlin and able to travel, NASSIM sees Soleimanpour join each performer on a journey into the unknown; stumbling upon the personal and profound, the limits of liberty and ultimately, where theatre can take you.

Described by The Guardian as "a clever, subversive piece about the slipperiness of language and meaning”, Soleimanpour will be joined on stage by Alison Bell, on 23 January. Alison's theatre work has earned her two Helpmann Awards (Doubt, 2006 and Hedda Gabler 2013) and a Green Room Award for her body of work (Sleeping Beauty; The Spook, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 2007). She has appeared in many Australian television series including Laid, HBO’s The Leftovers, Upper Middle Bogan and most recently starring in The Letdown, which she co-created and co-wrote, winning the 2016 AACTA award for Best Screenplay in Television

NASSIM was produced by the Bush Theatre and opened at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the Traverse Theatre on 3 August 2017.
