Do you aspire to create opera? Suzanne Chaundy and Pat Miller from award-winning Lyric Opera will lead a workshop on the basics of opera production. By application only.
This two day workshop will provide participants with an understanding of the key points of difference with working in opera in comparison to other areas of theatre. It will showcase the different styles of storytelling, the extraction of information to develop concept and how to work with music and with text in a foreign language. You will learn how relationships with key personnel work, what the artistic process looks like and what to expect during the production period. There will also be an opportunity to do scene work with singers (using a scene from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro) and work with recitative and ‘set-pieces’ along with hearing directly from a panel of experts who design for opera. The end of the two days will culminate in the staging of 'pop-up' opera scenes in the Hamer Hall Stalls foyer, which will be open to the public.
Recently awarded the newly established Green Room Award for Outstanding Contribution to Opera in Melbourne, Lyric Opera are a bold, creative opera company committed to developing artists, building new audiences and enriching the operatic repertoire.
