Spring into the city for a flower encounter like no other.
Rediscover iconic landmarks, laneways and boulevards in full bloom, as Melbourne’s florists stage a spectacular take over. Follow a themed trail of large-scale horticultural handiwork from Arts Centre Melbourne to the North Melbourne Post Office, Lygon Street to Hosier Lane and a dozen blossoming locations in between. Sourced from local growers with a mix of native plants and exotics, Urban Blooms is a fabulous floral celebration of the city for you to enjoy.
Beginning at the Arts Centre Melbourne forecourt the installation, Checked Reflection, will be created by florist Hattie Molloy. This installation will encourage viewers to see and interpret a polarising flower in a different way. It seeks to juxtapose the viewers perception of the humble gerbera against the optical brilliance once reimagined and arranged. No two days will be the same as the installation is ever changing and will grow over the course of the week.
Hattie Molloy’s nostalgic connection with flowers is the power that drives her contemporary and dynamic creative practice. Her work exists somewhere between floristry, sculpture and installation art. Checked Reflection works to highlight the growth that Melbourne needs to do as a community post lockdown to come back stronger than before.
Urban Blooms festival will take place across the city from 14 – 27 November.
