The Kylie Showgirl: The Greatest Hits tour followed the release of Ultimate Kylie: Greatest Hits in 2004. A celebration of how far Kylie had come over 15 years of live performance, each act was dedicated to a different interpretation of the showgirl as it had evolved over time. John Galliano’s blue feathered masterpiece, based on a Las Vegas showgirl, opened the show in spectacular fashion and soon became one of Kylie’s most iconic costumes. Kylie also worked closely with designer Karl Lagerfeld, who created the pink chiffon gown she wore while singing seated on a glittering half-moon.

Kylie was forced to cancel the Australian leg of the Showgirl tour when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005. The Kylie Showgirl Homecoming tour brought her back to the stage in 2006 and to the relief of all those who kept their tickets and held their breath throughout her recovery she appeared stronger than ever. There was now even more to celebrate and Galliano’s extraordinary pink showgirl costume helped set the festive scene in the opening act. The fun continued with over-the-top creations by Gareth Pugh, Boy George and Dolce & Gabbana, making Homecoming a visual feast of playful newlooks which Kylie wore with gusto.
