Help disadvantaged young people find their voice

Co-presented by ‘The Push’ and Arts Centre Melbourne, New Slang is a monthly, live music series showcasing both touring and local artists to Melbourne’s all-ages audience.

The New Slang events team are 10 dedicated, enthusiastic tastemakers aged 15-17 years.

Working with and learning from industry professionals, the team lead the organisation and programming of New Slang. Events team members gain hands-on experience, training and networking opportunities in the contemporary music industry, across a range of areas including:

  • Stage Management
  • Technical and Sound Production
  • Promotions and Marketing
  • Video Editing and Production
  • Photography
  • Artist Liaison and Bookings
  • Sponsorship
  • Media and Communications

In 2016, New Slang included performances by Tiny Little Houses, Alex Lahey, Baro, Tyne James Organ, The Vanns, Bangers, Wet Lips and Jarrow.

The Push is a Victorian non-profit youth music organisation established in 1986. Through a wide range of music related programs The Push aim to educate, entertain, inspire and empower young people. The Push works with music for young people as event organisers, audiences, community members and creative artists in a range of programs including band competitions, dance workshops, mentoring, and creative and professional development programs.

The Channel is Arts Centre Melbourne's learning and participation venue. This exciting, spacious venue boasts high tech learning labs, a world class recording studio and vocal booth, and a flexible multi-use space.
