SELFIE: Exploring My Identity is a collaborative project with Broadford Primary School and artist Lynne Kent held at Arts Centre Melbourne.

Creative Victoria’s Virtual Creative Professionals in Schools Program is a pilot program designed to investigate innovative and effective delivery methods to enable partnerships between remote schools and creative professionals using new technology.

The program has provided us the opportunity to collaborate with artist Lynne Kent and Broadford Primary School to create an enriching arts learning experience blending live performance with digital technology.

In SELFIE, students interrogate the similarities and differences between the live and the digital identity, between the perceived and the perception. Through creating and working with a digital version of self in performance, students will cross the intermedia divide from stage to screen and back again. The digital self can go anywhere, be anything, which can be magical and wonderful. Through SELFIE, students actively engage with and reflect on questions such as ‘What can my digital-self do that my ‘live’ self cannot?’, ‘How is my digital self-different or similar to my ‘live’ self?’ and ‘If my digital self could go anywhere and do anything, where would I go and what would I do?

Working with artist Lynne Kent and the Creative Educators at The Channel, students investigate and explore the notion of identity through visual art, performance, filmmaking and media. SELFIE encourages students to find creative ways via which to tell their stories with new technology.

The Virtual Creative Professionals in Schools is a partnership between Creative Victoria's Education Partnerships team, the Department of Education and Training's (DET) Digital Learning and STEM Branch, and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

"These projects will give students real-world experience of how creative practitioners work today and prepare them for the jobs of the future."
