The Australian Chamber Orchestra unveils their 2020 Season.
In 2020 the ACO celebrates 30 years of fearless artistic leadership with Richard Tognetti, and 250 years of enduring musical influence by Ludwig van Beethoven in a Season that spans nearly a millennium of music.
The 2020 season begins and ends in tribute to Beethoven in celebration of his 250th anniversary. The Orchestra will perform the first three symphonies by Beethoven at the beginning of the year and end it with a program that signposts significant compositions from every 50 years since the great composer’s birth. The Orchestra also pays tribute to their Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, celebrating his versatility and contribution as arranger, composer and champion of new works, performing Tognetti’s own arrangements and an exciting world premiere for electric violin.
Throughout the year the ACO will uncover the music that blossomed during the darkest days of oppression in Soviet Russia featuring works by Shostakovich and Prokofiev, while also exploring the healing powers of music through composer Hildegard von Bingen. The Season also features guest performances by acclaimed heldentenor Stuart Skelton as well as the dazzling and timeless music of Bach, Vivaldi and Handel under the direction of Jonathan Cohen.
