The Father

Melbourne Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company present presents

The Father

by Florian Zeller, translated by Christopher Hampton

AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

You can’t fool André. But there’s definitely something fishy going on. And while he may be eighty years old and apt to forget things, they are only ever small things. Like where he’s put his watch. It doesn’t explain why people are messing around with things in his flat. Or why his daughter allows strangers to come in and threaten him. No, something’s going on and he’ll get to the bottom of it.

A touching, funny and deeply unsettling mystery, Florian Zeller’s The Father was a hit in France before Christopher Hampton (Atonement) translated it into English and repeated the success and critical acclaim in London and New York. For this Australian Premiere production, stage luminary John Bell will star alongside Anita Hegh (The Crucible), with direction by Damien Ryan (Henry V).

A profoundly poignant human drama. Bell gives a stunning performance” –The Daily Telegraph

The Father is one of the most moving and extraordinary experiences.” –Stage Noise

An unqualified triumph.” –The Telegraph, UK

Ferocious, charming, playful.” –The Guardian, UK
