Fifty dancers flood the stage in this monumental new work by acclaimed choreographer Stephanie Lake.
One of Australia’s most inventive and celebrated choreographers, Stephanie Lake, brings Colossus to Arts Centre Melbourne. See the stage flooded with bodies in this monumental new dance work created with fifty dancers who will take over the Fairfax Studio stage and beyond.
Out of the darkness, the theatre gradually fills with a living, breathing, joyous mass of dancing bodies, moving in complex unison and wild individuality. They jostle and coexist in perfect imperfection, illustrating the push and pull of humanity and the exquisite patterning found in the natural world. Exploring the beauty and ugliness of the collective experience, Colossus builds and re-builds towards a united, frenetic and formidable utopia. Working with a cast of fifty young and emerging dance artists and a team of Australia’s leading collaborators, Colossus is the latest project developed as part of the Take Over! program.
Take Over! is a unique and ground breaking partnership between Arts Centre Melbourne and Melbourne Fringe, that enables an independent artist, company or collective to develop a new creative idea and take over the Fairfax Studio stage for one week during Melbourne Fringe Festival.
