There are few musical outfits that can claim the influence, mastery and longevity as Art Ensemble of Chicago, and after fifty years they're as visionary as ever.

Art Ensemble of Chicago formed in 1969 and have been pioneering new music ever since. Growing out of the groundbreaking Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in the late 1960s, the group changed music and performance history forever, moving beyond the genres of jazz, experimental music and performance art into a creative realm that was entirely their own.

Tapping into styles that hearken back long before jazz's inception and thrusting into a future yet to be conceived, AEOC's performances were made even more distinctive through the use of unique sounds and instruments.

Whistles, horns, bells, gongs, homemade and found sound objects feature alongside the saxophones, flutes, trumpet, flugelhorn, double bass and drum set of the group’s founding members of Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman, Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, Fontella Bass and Don Moye.

The group’s legendary live performances blended music, theatre, poetry and dance to create a visual and auditory spectacle that has seen them remain one of the most influential groups of the 20th century. Discover why this legendary act has proven to be one of music's most enduring forces, powered by an indomitable spirit of original leaders Roscoe Mitchell and Famoudou Don Moye, and bolstered by the likes of Tomeka Reid, Hugh Ragin, Junius Paul, Dudu Kouaté and visionary rising star Moor Mother.

Art Ensemble of Chicago plus Special Guest – USA is an individually ticketed event.
