Tour Departure Point: Welcome Desk (just inside the main doors of the building with the Spire)
Discover the stories, history and secrets of the labyrinth beneath the famous Arts Centre Melbourne spire.
The land on which Arts Centre Melbourne sits has long been a place of gathering, storytelling, song, ceremony, celebration and commemoration for our First Nations people.
Our guided tours of Arts Centre Melbourne invite students to discover how Australia’s largest performing arts centre continues that tradition of storytelling and celebration to this day. Students will be given a sneak peek into how this cultural and architectural landmark and home of world-class music, dance, theatre and opera companies runs 7 days a week.
Students will see highlights from the world-renowned Australian Performing Arts Collection, learn about the significant Australian artworks found throughout the foyers, and after the tour can explore the Australian Music Vault. For older students, this tour will be enjoyed by students with an interest in architecture, design, or in pursuing a career in the performing arts (particularly behind the scenes!). For younger students, it is a chance to explore the history of this beautiful building and to learn about the significance of this site.
Are you keen for your students to learn more about the Indigenous history of this area? Then check out our Birrarung Wilam Stories workshop, delivered in partnership with Koorie Heritage trust.
If the cost of attending a Creative Learning program at Arts Centre Melbourne is a barrier for your students, then you might be eligible for support through our subsidy program, the First Call Fund.
