Help disadvantaged young people find their voice

Applications for Term 2 2020 are now open!

Stories in the Wall is Arts Centre Melbourne’s long running digital storytelling project that partners students from Victorian primary schools with professional playwrights.

In 2020 Arts Centre Melbourne is looking for 4 Melbourne and 2 Regional primary schools to partner with during Term 2.

Working in small groups, up to 30 Grade 5 and/or 6 students per school will be visited five times, to be guided through the story-making and scriptwriting process by professional playwrights, developing their writing skills as they create and refine original plays. This is followed up with Melbourne schools making a visit to The Channel at Arts Centre Melbourne, where students act out and record their plays. Arts Centre Melbourne staff will visit regional schools with mobile recording equipment.

Three plays from each school will be selected for stage two of the project, where tertiary students from the Victorian College of the Arts compose original music, and create original sound design to make these stories come to life!

The final pieces are then available online for audiences to hear and enjoy, with more than 11,000 listens to date. Stories are also available to listen to in an engaging foyer installation at Arts Centre Melbourne, and on tour to local regional venues.
