The Barre strikes the perfect balance. A vibrant and modern atmosphere, with a focus on seasonal produce, great wine and a classic cocktail list. The best place to start or finish your evening.
The Barre, Arts Centre Melbourne’s sleek space running along the curve of the ground floor of the Theatres Building, offers a touch of luxury and hint of showmanship. It is often filled with the lively pre- and post-show buzz that takes the bar and eatery from early evening to late night…with a dash of panache!
Our modern Australian menu, with its emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients, offers both small and larger dishes to be shared and enjoyed with friends. Choose from a well-considered wine list that gives prominence to local winemakers, an exciting range of craft beers and ciders, or a distinct selection of cocktails and small-batch Australian gins and single malt whiskies from Australia and New Zealand.
With a blend of contemporary aesthetics and sculptural silhouettes, The Barre’s welcoming space, designed by Clare Cousins Architects, includes a special nod to Arts Centre Melbourne history – timber floorboards, salvaged from the Hamer Hall redevelopment, recycled into parquetry throughout the main bar.
From a pre-show sparkling with a share plate, a meal with a fine wine or a mellow late-night drink, we invite you to join us at The Barre.

Tucked away outside, behind The Barre, you’ll discover a very good, poorly kept secret. Inspired CHICAGO's prohibition era setting, The Speakeasy at The Barre promises classic prohibition cocktails and local and international drinks. The perfect spot for a tipple before or after the performance.
